The Place I Live

Over the past few months, I have been working through a list of prompts about thankfulness. Today, my prompt was "I am thankful for the place I live..." so I did some thinking. What am I thankful for about our little city?

We recently moved and I love the place that we live. It's very close to where I grew up, but a little more rural. We live in a granny flat in the backyard of a house in a tiny country neighborhood. To paint the picture, when we walk outside, there are goats on one side, an aviary behind us, and at least five dogs. Oh yeah, and don't forget-- chickens! It's wonderful.

Before this, Daniel and I did a short stint living in the "city". Now when I say city, I don't mean city like New York or LA, I just mean we lived in an area that was extremely crowded, busy, and never quiet. Besides animal noises, it's so much more quiet here. I don't feel afraid to leave the windows open or the door unlocked.

I have a great neighborhood (with 2 killer hills) to walk in without being afraid. I live about 6 minutes away from my best friend. Our house is in the "country", yet we are only 3 minutes from the freeway. We can quickly pop into the grocery store if we need to. There is a great running trail that is about 8 minutes away.

Just minutes away is Main Street, a quirky little street full of fun places to explore (and good food). We live a short drive from Lake Tahoe and a short(ish) drive from San Francisco. My family lives closeby and school is 45 minutes (which is further than I would like, but oh well).

Did I mention that we live just a few minutes from Apple Hill, a place where everyone revels in fall. Apples, caramel, cider, and pumpkins, oh my!

I love where I live and I am SO thankful for it.

Why are you thankful for the place you live?

  1. Sounds like you have a lovely place to live!! We bought a house a few months ago in the town where my husband and I grew up. We are literally 5 minutes from both of our parents, which is great. We are two miles from every store you could imagine, and highways, and 40 minutes from Philadelphia. I love being so close to the hustle and bustle, but we have a big backyard with chickens and when we sit out back I feel like I'm in the middle of nowhere. Best of both worlds! :)
